On 18 June, the UN General Assembly adopted a significant resolution on the military coup in Myanmar/Burma that included calls for a global arms embargo on the military.
However, this resolution is not legally binding and further action is needed to address the alarming situation in Myanmar. Since the coup on 1 February, over 900 people have been killed by the military. An estimated 230,000 people have been displaced by the fighting.
The UN Security Council has the mandate to enforce an arms embargo on the Myanmar military. Write to the Foreign Secretary now and call on the UK government to lead the Security Council towards this action.
